Prensa Latina - Cuban civil society celebrates this Tuesday (10), International Human Rights Day and reaffirms progress in this area, 76 years after the Universal Declaration of these universal principles.
The Cuban Pavilion in the capital will be the national epicenter of debates by activists from social organizations on the island that promote and protect Human Rights for all and not as privileges of the elite, as in other nations, the organizers stated.
Despite the difficult economic scenario and the pressures from the United States government and its blockade policy, the country is strengthening its legal framework and guaranteeing the full exercise of these essential principles.
Cuban authorities and civil society actors assure that the country endorses in its Constitution the search for greater social justice for all and identifies human dignity as a fundamental right and a premise in the construction of its socialist system.
From the Cuban perspective, human rights are not limited to the defense of political and civil rights, but also economic, social and cultural rights seen in their universality and scope, including the right to development, peace and life, which are continually and flagrantly denied to other nations.
In Cuba, this is a guarantee of the enjoyment of all the prosperity and social justice that a society can ensure from an institutional point of view, but it is also expressed in practice in the materialization of all these rights, maintains, in this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Antilles.
In 2023, the nation was elected a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the sixth time, which is consistent with the Caribbean country's performance in this matter.
Likewise, the Caribbean island has a long history of cooperation with all human rights mechanisms applied in a universal and non-discriminatory manner ''
Desde quando um ditador se preocupa em respeitar
Editor's opinion.
Since when will a dictatorial government care about human rights?
The whole world knows how much the Cuban people suffer at the hands of a dictatorial government.
Hundreds of political prisoners, including children and adolescents, have taken to the streets to fight for food and water.
The dictatorial government of Cuba does not have the money to give food to its people, but it does have the resources to arm its political police to violate the population.
All solidarity with the Cuban people who are on the streets fighting for social justice.
