By Gustavo Petro, President of Colombia - There are 1,030 boys and girls murdered in Palestine. The barbarity. Every 15 minutes a child is murdered in the land where a religion based on love emerged. In Colombia, 350 children have been killed in bombings this century and 6,402 unarmed young people have been murdered in just a few years.
Many of those who today consider themselves members of that religion of love no longer defend children in danger, but rather freed Herods.
I was accused of being anti-Semitic and supporting Hamas. Ignorant. I cannot defend an organization that supports the fusion of Religion and State because we fight against it in our own country, and because the vision of those who believe they are the chosen people and the superior race leads to the massacre of other peoples.
Neither I, nor my biological or ideological parents and grandparents were with Hitler as if the oligarchy and the press that attacks me were.
They are resurrecting Hitler in times of climate crisis and he returns identical with his concentration camps and the total destruction of cities. Hitler is reborn as a practice of political and economic power over the very division of humanity, over its weaknesses and fears. The fear of being different is Hitler's father.
It is the fear of being different that makes Europe's political power applaud the expulsion of the Palestinians to the south. He would oppose it with guns in his teeth if the expulsion went north.
Democracy still has its chance. This opportunity clings to peace, clings to the life of humanity and the planet.
That integral life of man and nature that cannot be defended except through the unity of differences. The demand for difference kills Hitler.
Global democracy is the powerful voice of the South that is being heard. The doomed peoples of the earth are to the south and must scream today because in the storm unleashed by an atmosphere damaged by gases from the enormous consumption of the north and its riches, they may perish.
Today's consumption of wealth is based on the death of others and will only grow if indifference increases and manages to end democracy.
Indifference is what allows us to applaud those who ordered the death of our 6,402 innocent young people under the arms of the State and those who murdered 1,030 children bombed in Palestine.
Today Colombia and the world choose between hope and barbarity.
